Banksy – Myths and Legends

Banksy: A Myth and a Legend.

What could be considered a memoir of one of the most influential street artists, Banksy: Myths and Legends has been released. It is described as including tales of the artist himself. Most of the stories come from Bristol, where Banksy is from, and are labeled as “tall tales” or “stuff from myth.”

While this writer is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the book, you can find a copy on amazon.

Banksy // Art in the Streets [Photos]

Banksy showed at MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” exhibition, much to everyone’s surprise.

The secretive artist, who has been known to pop up unexpectedly, contributed an entire room to the exhibition, including new pieces, and versions of outdoor pieces, plus stencils of iconic older work.

Banksy’s gallery of work is ever changing as well; the gallery shifted new pieces in and out of the space during the exhibition. The pieces, which include a graffiti-stained church window, a dog peeing on a wall, and a modified painting for the anniversary of the Rodney King incident, are amazing pieces.

Exit Through The Gift Shop

Ah, Banksy. That unrequited love I have for him and his mischievous ways.

Those of you who have followed my sporadic and indeed eccentric posts know that I am a lover of street art, in all of its forms. I haven’t written about it in a while, but Banksy has changed that.

The notoriously private individual who has lauded us with his stencils for so many years now has made a film.

Oh yes. He has. EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP is a documentary/film about street art, of which Banksy is an expert. The film is basically the story of a French shop keeper who films his journey to find – and befriend – Banksy. Banksy apparently turns the camera on the shop keeper, and, well, you have to watch the film to find out.

It’s in limited release (bummer) but it will be in my area soon, so I will be sure to blog a review.
