La Maison Champs-Elysées // Maison Martin Margiela

Maison Martin Margiela seems to be following in the footsteps of its founder by embarking on a hotel collaboration in Paris.

The influential fashion house claimed the privilege of designing a hotel within the confines of the historical Maison des Centraliens after victory in a design competition. The two buildings that make up the hotel consist of 40 charm rooms, 17 couture suites, a smoking room, bar, restaurant, and garden along with a reception area.

The overall design could be described as a surreal, grown-up, metropolitan version of Alice in Wonderland. Minus the Mad Hatter.

Charm room rates start at 203 euros, while Couture suites are 1,250 euros.

Maison Martin Margiela x Les Sources de Caudalie

Maison Martin Margiela is arguably one of the most talented, elegant, and focused designers of our time.

The man behind the celebrated brand marked the end of his career at his eponymous line at the end of 2009 by looking towards product design and even interior design –  at Les Sources de Caudalie (located in Chemin de Smith Haut-Lafitte, Bordeaux-Martillac), Margiela designed the signature suite, which resides near a pond, is miles away from the French country decor that celebrates the other rooms in the Chateau where the spa resides.

The design of the room is masterfully Margiela, which consists of his white-on-white-on-gray palette and his playfulness. Forgoing the traditional headboard, twelve white pillows were stitched together and placed on the wall. Overlapping calfskin rugs cover the floor. The only dash of color comes from a red-hot lips sofa positioned in the room.

The suite, which re-opened in December of 2009, starts at 650 Euros and up.

C215

France is where stenciling and the street art culture began.

C215 is a Stencil Artist from France.

In the world of art – whether classical, contemporary, or street – one is known not just for their prolific tendencies, but also for the style and compositions they are renown for.

C215 is an incredibly educated and talented man from the suburbs of Paris. The stencil artist, who has 2 Master’s degrees and a PhD from the Sorbonne, worked in export until his daughter was born. He made the switch to stenciling then, and hasn’t looked back.

It is not unusual to find a street artist who has been so formally educated. C215′s distinction comes from his stencils – most are faces, animals, and streetscapes, and are colored quite beautifully with bold hues. His work, done mostly during the day, can be found on rusty doors or mailboxes and on walls that have already been tagged.

What amazes this writer is that C215 has a unique perspective on different emotions that are easily detectable in the face.
