Alexander McQueen

Although Alexander McQueen is not known for his environmentally friendly clothes or timeless looks, this season McQueen stuck to the hearbreaking truth and brought the economic recession literally onto the runway. Taking from past shows, props and structures were strewn about the stage, and each lurid and sinister piece on the models (which held vapid gazes on their faces) heralded back to a silhouette or a piece we’ve seen before. And milliner Philip Treacy (renowned amongst Americans as the man who made the curious and ugly hat Sarah Jessica Parker showcased at the premiere of the Sex and the City film) followed McQueen’s suit, making hats out of aluminum cans, umbrellas, and anything else that could be recycled. And while it may still be a while until McQueen finds a way to bring sustainablity, we can still revel in his honest fashions.
