Colombiana // Trailer

Zoe Saldana holding a gun. Who could ask for more?

Colombiana is a movie about a little girl who sees her parents killed in front of her when she was a child. Now, as an adult, she is a stone-cold assassin bent on avenging the deaths of her parents, and the only way to do that is to track down the mobster that ordered the hit on her family.

The film, written and produced by Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Fifth Element), is directed by Olivier Megaton and stars Zoe Saldana, Jordi Molla, Lennie James, Michael Vartan, and Cliff Curtis.

It’s an interesting and bold gesture to make a film about a woman who takes on her demons. Usually, a woman isn’t seen as physically dangerous as a man, even with a gun in her hand. Luc Besson has always been on the forefront of making women as strong as they actually are. Unfortunately, there are not enough filmmakers like that.

Colombiana opens 26 August 2011.
